Arie from FIASCO
Arie has been involved in many of the places you’ve already visited in Amsterdam. FIASCO is his latest endeavour with a brand new shop on Willemsstraat, a recently launched webshop, and there are also plans to expand beyond this… If you haven’t been to FIASCO yet, make sure to pop by for some great bottles and wine conversation.
Q: In 1-2 sentences, tell us about FIASCO.
A: A low-key and slightly hidden wineshop with little fuzz and a small but rapidly changing selection. We specialise in natural wines and ciders and are very focussed on the person behind the wines.
Q: What about You personally, why are you working with this? What's your story?
A: I have worked in hospitality since I was 14 years old, working in 5*hotels, divebars, Michelin star restaurants and clubs, did my first classical wine trainings at 21. Finally starting my first place with Cafe de Walvis. After selling this I started Panache and Partisan where my love affair with wine came back into my work.
I got into natural wine about 6 years ago after a dinner at legendary restaurant de Nieuwe Winkel and the wines Rutger van de Pol gave me. Ever since I got into it deep pretty quick. After selling my share in Panache and Partisan I worked for a while at Choux and after that I left for France to help set up a restaurant, work at a winemaker and finishing with working at the legendary Cyril Zangs for a while. Now back in Amsterdam doing everything I can with wine and now for a few months FIASCO.
Q: What is your favourite bottle in your store right now, and Why should we all buy one?
A: DNAss by Fabio Gea, because it is from a different planet - It will do anything for anyone!
